What this list covers

A chess club around Oslo is a member association, most often belonging to Norges Sjakkforbund through a district such as Oslo Sjakkrets or Akershus Sjakkrets, and it usually meets on one or two fixed evenings a week. Oslo Schakselskap has its own rooms on the seventh floor in Bogstadveien and plays lightning every Tuesday; Sjakklubben Stjernen on Grünerløkka holds rapid on Thursdays and lightning on Saturdays; Kampen på Brettet meets in Kampen Bydelshus, Nordstrand at Lambertseter gård and Schakklubben av 1911 at the seniors' centre in Ullevål Hageby.

Past the city boundary the list follows the clubs into Bærum, where Bærum Schakselskap plays in Bærum Idrettspark and the Dragulf clubs at Norges Toppidrettsgymnas in Bekkestua, and on to Asker, Lillestrøm, Nittedal, Ski, Ås, Vestby and Nes. Several clubs are known only from the federation's register or the business register, with no page that shows recent play; their cards say they are not confirmed.

How a club evening runs differs from place to place. Some clubs play a long tournament over the term's club evenings, as Nordstrand and Schakklubben av 1911 do in autumn; others fill the evening with lightning or rapid, as Oslo Schakselskap and Kampen på Brettet do on Tuesdays; others again keep the first hour for children and the rest for adults, as Slemmestad, Nittedal and Vestby do. Lillestrøm plays in the cafeteria of Skedsmohallen, Strømmen at Skjetten Menighetssenter, the Hurum club at Sætre innbyggertorg in Asker, and Follo Sjakkforening under Ås Kulturhus. Each card gives the days and times its pages state.
